The Ross Cage

The Ross Cage

The “cage” is an industrial elevator car used to haul people and equipment in the Sanford Underground Research Facility. The Ross Shaft cage, shown here, is on the station at the 3600 Level. The Ross Shaft and Yates Shaft each provide access from the surface to the 4,850-foot level. Photo credit: Matthew Kapust.
